California Rethinks State Boycotts Based on LGBTQ Laws.

San Francisco has repealed its ban on city business with conservative states, and California may follow suit by rescinding a similar prohibition on state-funded travel. The bans were put in place to protest against states deemed hostile to L.G.B.T.Q. communities, but have been criticized as having little impact and mostly hurting California's own government operations. Supporters of the repeal argue that outreach campaigns could be more effective in promoting L.G.B.T.Q. rights, while opponents fear that lifting the bans could allow for harms to continue. The repeal proposed by California State Senate leader Toni Atkins would have to clear both chambers of the state legislature and be signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.
