Controversy Surrounds PM Modi's Visit to the US

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Hindu nationalist leader who was once banned from the US for violating religious freedom, is on a four-day visit to the country. He will meet with business and technology leaders, address a joint session of Congress, and talk with President Joe Biden. Modi's critics claim he has changed India in toxic ways, from cracking down on media dissent to fostering a political personality cult. However, retired Indian diplomat Nirupama Rao said the majority of Indians won't be lectured to about their democracy or internal situation. Modi is expected to lead a yoga session on international yoga day at the UN, an annual event he persuaded the UN to adopt.
