Debate Intensifies Over Calls for Supreme Court Justices to Retire
TL;DR
Bernie Sanders opposes any move to pressure Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to step down, allowing President Biden to appoint a younger liberal successor. Concerns arise from Sotomayor's health issues and the potential for a repeat of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's situation, which allowed Trump to appoint a conservative justice. With Democrats soon losing Senate control, the chance for Biden to nominate a replacement is diminishing. Sanders believes it is not sensible to ask Sotomayor to resign, despite some Democratic discussions on the matter.
