DOJ Reveals Costs of Trump Special Counsel Probes: Over $9 Million Spent

Special counsel Jack Smith's investigations into former President Donald Trump's alleged mishandling of classified documents and pro-Trump efforts to overturn the 2020 election results have cost $5.4 million since his appointment in November, with an additional $3.8 million spent by other parts of the Justice Department. The Justice Department also released cost summaries for two other special counsels, Robert Hur and John Durham, with Hur spending $615,962 and Durham spending $1.1 million. The total cost of the Russia investigation led by Robert Mueller was approximately $32 million, while independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr spent over $52 million investigating President Bill Clinton in the 1990s.
