Garland seeks removal of marshals from Supreme Court security duty.

Attorney General Merrick Garland hopes that the U.S. Marshals Service's enhanced security for Supreme Court justices and their families won't be provided indefinitely. Garland ordered deputy U.S. marshals to the homes of Supreme Court justices last May, after protests broke out there following a bombshell report that a majority of the high court had voted privately to overturn the federal right to abortion established a half-century ago in Roe v. Wade. The Marshals Service is seeking $21 million to pay for 42 additional deputy marshals in the next fiscal year. Garland said he hopes the Supreme Court Police will take over the security task.
