GOP's Proposed Redistricting in North Carolina Threatens Democratic Seats

North Carolina GOP state legislators have released two draft congressional maps that would significantly reduce Democrats' representation in the state, potentially giving Republicans up to a four-seat boost. The proposed gerrymandering plans, which could result in an 11R-3D breakdown, aim to secure the House majority for Republicans in 2024. Republican legislators plan to push through one of the plans using their supermajority, and Democratic Governor Roy Cooper has no veto power over redistricting. The state Supreme Court's ruling in April that gerrymandering does not violate the state constitution paved the way for this redraw.
