NAACP sues Mississippi over expanded state control of Jackson's law enforcement.

The NAACP has filed a lawsuit against Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves after he signed legislation that expands the state's law enforcement reach in Jackson and implements major changes to its judicial system. Critics have opposed the bills, saying they would put mostly White, conservative state officials in control over much of a Democratic city where more than 80% of residents are Black. The NAACP argues that the state can do more elsewhere to alleviate problems in Jackson and that the legislation represents a state takeover of the city.
