North Carolina Republicans propose 12-week abortion ban

North Carolina Republicans have introduced a new abortion bill that would ban the procedure after 12 weeks, with exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and fetal anomalies. The bill also requires a consultation 72 hours prior to the abortion, an ultrasound, and notice that the pregnant person can view "the remains" after the procedure. Physicians who violate the bill will be subject to discipline from the North Carolina Medical Board. Governor Roy Cooper plans to veto the bill, but Republicans hold a supermajority in the Senate and are close to a supermajority in the House.
