NY Attorney General Takes Action Against Long Island Transgender Sports Ban

New York Attorney General Letitia James has demanded Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman rescind a ban on transgender athletes from competing in women’s and girls’ sports, calling it discriminatory and transphobic. The executive order, signed on February 22, applies to more than 100 venues under the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Museums, and has sparked a push to restrict transgender athletes' participation in organized sports in the name of "fairness." The National Center for Transgender Equality has warned that such legislation would have direct and damaging impacts on the lives of transgender athletes and contribute to broader cultural narratives surrounding the trans community.
