"Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher Announces Retirement, Citing Dysfunctional Congress"
TL;DR
Rep. Mike Gallagher, a 39-year-old GOP congressman and rising star, announced he won't seek reelection after rejecting his party's push to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Gallagher, a Marine Corps veteran, emphasized that Congress is not a place to grow old and that electoral politics was never meant to be a career. His decision to vote against the Mayorkas impeachment highlighted the tenuous nature of the GOP's House majority, with even a few defections potentially impacting major bills.
