Senate Democrats press for transparency on Justice Thomas' ties to GOP megadonor.

Senate Democrats are demanding more information from Harlan Crow, a wealthy GOP donor, regarding his ties to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, including undisclosed gifts such as luxury trips and private school tuition for a Thomas relative. Crow did not meet a May 8 deadline to turn over information. Senate Republicans are opposing any subpoenas or other tools used by Democrats to "undermine the independence" of the court. The Democrats' responses will aid "ongoing efforts to craft legislation strengthening the ethical rules and standards" for Supreme Court justices.
