Vermont Governor Phil Scott has vetoed the Affordable Heat Act, a bill aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by creating a clean heat standard and marketplace for clean heat credits. The governor objected to the economic burden it would place on those least able to afford it and the lack of clarity in the bill's language. This is expected to be the first of several vetoes by the Republican governor, including the state budget passed by the Senate this week. Lawmakers have scheduled a veto session in June to attempt to override the governor.
