Earle-Sears called out city leaders and pointed to "gangs" in her remarks, but Richmond Interim Police Chief Rick Edwards said there is no information that the victims were gang members. Democrats also pointed out that Earle-Sears' campaign posters showed her holding an assault-style rifle. Earle-Sears defended her remarks, saying they were a call to action for change in the city.
