West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has filed to run for the US Senate, potentially challenging Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, who has not yet confirmed whether he will run for a third term. Justice, a Republican, is expected to receive support from GOP leaders in the primary, which also features Rep. Alex Mooney. Manchin faces a difficult reelection race in a heavily Republican state, which backed Donald Trump in 2020 by nearly 40 points. Justice, who was first elected governor as a Democrat in 2016, has recently focused on conservative issues and is term-limited as governor.
