SpaceX's Starship rocket exploded minutes after launching on its first test flight, crashing into the Gulf of Mexico. The rocket carried no people or satellites, and was intentionally destroyed by its self-destruct system after multiple engines on the 33-engine booster failed to fire, causing it to lose altitude and begin to tumble. Despite the failed attempt, SpaceX has more boosters and spacecraft lined up for more test flights, with the aim of using Starship to send people and cargo to the moon and eventually Mars.
