Lawmakers seek to loosen airline advertising rules on full airfare prices
Lawmakers are proposing changes to the Federal Aviation Administration programs, including weakening an Obama-era rule that requires airlines to show the total price of a ticket upfront in advertising, and allowing airlines to advertise the “base airfare” excluding taxes and fees. The bill also proposes to let people become airline pilots with less time in the cockpit, allowing 250 hours of training in simulators rather than flying a plane. The bill includes provisions aimed at improving airport infrastructure and the supply of sustainable aviation fuel, and requires airline planes to be outfitted with better cockpit voice recorders and cockpit video recorders to improve accident investigations.
