Virginia parents charged after 5-year-old nonverbal daughter found dead in SC waterway

Virginia parents John Hayes III, 70, and Geordyn Hayes, 31, were arrested in Tennessee on charges of unlawfully placing a child at risk and abandoning a child after their nonverbal 5-year-old daughter Saylor Hayes wandered from a Pawleys Island vacation rental and was found dead in a nearby South Carolina waterway; investigators say Saylor was not wearing a Project Lifesaver transmitter at the time, and the parents allegedly redirected search efforts away from the water, hindering the rescue; an autopsy is pending to determine cause of death.
