Hawk Fire Triggers Evacuations in Reno as Nevada Declares Emergency

A fast-growing brush fire known as the Hawk Fire expanded to more than 10,500 acres near Reno, Nevada, with no containment as wind-driven flames threatened neighborhoods. Evacuations were ordered or widened across parts of northwestern Reno and Somersett, and Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency for Washoe County; roughly 400 firefighters and helicopters battled the blaze, which remains undetermined in cause amid dry, windy conditions. State agencies were directed to coordinate through the emergency operations center as residents were urged to evacuate immediately.
