"California Braces for Intense Atmospheric River Storms and Flood Warnings"

California is bracing for heavy rains and potential flooding as an atmospheric river is expected to bring two to five inches of rain, with up to eight inches in the mountains, starting on Sunday. More than 37 million people nationwide are under a flood watch, with the bulk of the precipitation expected on Sunday night and Monday. Atmospheric rivers are narrow bands of moisture blown over the West Coast by winds in the Pacific and are the cause of California's heaviest rains and floods.
