Extreme rainfall spurs floods and mudslides across southern Minnesota

Torrential rainfall dumped up to 8 inches across south-central and southeast Minnesota, sparking floods, mudslides, and numerous road closures as creeks and rivers rose. Spring Valley, New Richland, Lanesboro, and Austin reported flooded streets and sandbag needs, with MnDOT monitoringclosures on state highways. Authorities warned to avoid flooded roads and barricades as rivers were forecast to crest or rise to minor/moderate flood stages.
