Impending atmospheric river threatens heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Southern California is expected to experience heavy rainfall, strong winds, and cold temperatures from an atmospheric river event and subsequent cold front. A High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory have been issued for various areas. Flooding and excessive runoff are concerns due to high rainfall rates and saturated ground. Snow levels are expected to drop to 4,500 feet, causing travel difficulties in mountain communities. Coastal communities could receive up to two inches of rain, while inland valleys could receive up to three inches and mountains could receive around five inches or more. Surf will also be choppy with gusty winds over coastal waters.
