Severe thunderstorms and damaging winds threaten East Coast.

The DC region is expected to experience severe thunderstorms on Monday afternoon, with wind gusts up to 70 mph, large hail, and the possibility of tornadoes. The storms are expected to start at around 2 p.m. and continue into the overnight hours, ending around midnight. The highest chance of severe storms is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Areas along and east of Interstate 95 are currently under “Enhanced Risk” from the extreme weather. Afternoon commuters are encouraged to take caution, as damaging winds and heavy rain could cause downed power lines and debris.
