Severe weather outbreak threatens Iowa and Illinois.

Severe thunderstorms with the risk of tornadoes and large hail have hit Iowa, with several tornadoes reported in eastern parts of the state. Northwestern and north-central Iowa could see snow and blizzard conditions overnight. Tornado warnings have been issued for several areas, including Fairfield, Mount Pleasant, Wayland, Vinton, Center Point, Urbana, Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Grundy Center, Washington, Kalona, Riverside, Coralville, North Liberty, Mount Vernon, Marshalltown, Reinbeck, Gladbrook, Waverly, Parkersburg, and Ackley. Central Iowa is no longer under threat, but strong, gusty winds may continue. The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for parts of central and eastern Iowa, including Des Moines, Ames, and Iowa City, with a blizzard warning in far northwest Iowa and a winter storm warning in surrounding counties.
