Severe weather threatens South with tornadoes and hail.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit the South again, with a high risk of strong tornadoes and damaging hail. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for central and southern Alabama and central Georgia, with additional watches likely to be rolled out thereafter. The Deep South has been highlighted as having a level 3 out of 5 “enhanced risk” of severe weather. The storm hazards include hail as large as lime-size and strong tornadoes. The storms are being triggered by a stalled cold front, with Gulf of Mexico moisture pooling and festering to the south and dry, continental air spilling southward to the north.
