Beijing seeks accountability after detainee’s death in US ICE custody

China pressed the United States for answers after a man died in an ICE custody facility in Saipan, part of the Northern Mariana Islands. ICE data show the Saipan lockup has averaged about 18 detainees per day this year, and the territory’s corrections commissioner, Anthony Torres, said the department will review procedures and implement corrective actions to strengthen prevention and response.
