2023 Solar Eclipse: Watch In-Person or Virtually, Including in Austin, Texas

A rare "ring of fire" annular solar eclipse will be visible from eight US states on October 14, 2023. Sky-watchers across the Americas will witness a partial solar eclipse, but only a narrow path will experience the ring of fire effect for a few minutes. Unlike a total solar eclipse, an annular eclipse does not result in darkness or the "black hole sun" effect, but it offers a remarkable ring of fire. The eclipse path starts in Oregon and crosses several US states before moving across Mexico, Central America, and South America. To witness the ring of fire, viewers must be within the path of annularity, with the longest duration observed from Padre Island, Texas. Those unable to be in the path can watch livestreams of the event.
