The Sanford Burnham Prebys medical research institute in La Jolla has recruited the first six of what they hope will be 20 new scientists in a record time of seven months. The institute received a $70 million donation to explore cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, and the new hires bring expertise in cryo-EM imaging technology, immune system-cancer interactions, cardiac cell research, computational tools for cancer drug characterization, mitochondrial metabolism, and non-gene molecules in aging. The institute aims to foster collaboration and regional cooperation among research institutions in San Diego.
