Apollo 14 Moon Seeds Grow into Living Public Monuments

In 1971, Stuart Roosa carried hundreds of seeds around the Moon aboard Apollo 14; the seeds never touched lunar soil but later germinated into trees planted at courthouses, schools, parks and more, each marked with a plaque detailing its voyage. Some trees survived and spread to locations worldwide, becoming quiet living monuments that reflect spaceflight history. The concept was revived with Artemis, which sent new Moon Tree seeds on Orion to be planted in public institutions, continuing the idea of turning space labor into Earthly shade.
