Subtle penumbral eclipse arrives in Feb 2027, with a 2028 Blood Moon finale on deck

After August 2026’s partial lunar eclipse, Earth’s shadow will dim the Moon next on February 20, 2027 in a penumbral eclipse during the Snow Moon, a subtle shading last visibly around 6:12 p.m. EST as the Moon passes through Earth’s outer shadow; the inner umbra will miss the Moon. The next lunar eclipse strong enough to rival August’s won’t occur until New Year’s Eve 2028, when a total lunar eclipse—often called a Blood Moon—will be visible over parts of Asia, Australia and the Pacific.
