Close Encounters: Nova Scotia Angler Hooks Great White Shark While Fishing

A fisherman in Nova Scotia, Rick Austin, unknowingly hooked a juvenile great white shark while striped bass fishing in the Minas Basin. Austin recorded the encounter and initially mistook the shark for a porpoise before releasing it. Biologists from the New England Aquarium and the University of Guelph later confirmed that it was indeed a great white shark, estimating its length to be between six to eight feet and its weight to be between 200 to 250 pounds.
