West Omaha standoff ends with suspect's self-inflicted death

A West Omaha standoff near 145th and Shirley ended with the death of Daniel Read, 44, who fled police, forced entry into a nearby home and was involved in hours of negotiations with a SWAT team. Read died of a self-inflicted gunshot inside the residence; a woman inside escaped unharmed. Police fired no shots, and the investigation remains open with the case heading to a grand jury.
