LockBit Ransomware Expands to Target Apple macOS Devices.

LockBit ransomware operators have developed a new variant that can encrypt files on macOS devices, marking the first time a big-game ransomware crew has created a macOS-based payload. The macOS variant has been available since November 2022 and has managed to evade detection by anti-malware engines until now. While the macOS version is still a work in progress, security researcher Patrick Wardle pointed out that macOS users have nothing to worry about for now, as Apple's Gatekeeper protections, System Integrity Protection, and Transparency, Consent, and Control prevent the execution of unauthorized code and require apps to seek users' permission to access protected files and data.
