A malicious version of OpenAI's ChatGPT called WormGPT has been unleashed by a black hat hacker, enabling cybercriminals to launch email phishing attacks. WormGPT, based on the GPTJ language model, is specifically designed for malicious activities and has been trained on malware-related datasets. It lacks the guardrails present in ChatGPT, allowing it to develop malware. Phishing attacks, such as Business Email Compromise (BEC), are becoming more effective with the use of generative AI chatbots like WormGPT, which can write convincing human-like emails. Cybersecurity firm SlashNext recommends enhanced email verification to protect against BEC attacks.
