Japan aims to transmit solar power from space by 2025.

Japan plans to beam solar energy from space to ground-based receiving stations by 2025 using a series of small satellites. In 2015, JAXA scientists successfully beamed 1.8 kilowatts of power wirelessly. However, creating a satellite array that can generate 1 gigawatt of power is estimated to cost around $7 billion with current technologies.
