Solar Storms Cause Widespread Radio Blackouts in North America

A powerful solar flare, classified as an X1.5, disrupted radio and navigation signals across North America, causing a strong radio blackout event. Solar flares are energetic flashes of radiation that explode from sunspots on the sun's surface. The flare emerged from the largest and most active sunspot group currently visible on the sun's disk. In addition to this flare, multiple moderate-class flares have occurred in recent days. The Met Office issued a warning for a mild solar radiation storm, but it is expected to be harmless. Space weather forecasters are also preparing for the arrival of two coronal mass ejections (CME), which could cause a geomagnetic storm.
