Rare green comet Nishimura to make once-in-a-lifetime appearance before 400-year absence

The Nishimura comet, named after the amateur astronomer who discovered it in August, will be visible in the Northern Hemisphere this week before dawn, including in Israel. This kilometer-sized comet will pass safely by Earth on Tuesday, coming within 78 million miles of our planet. It will be visible to the naked eye but will require binoculars to spot. The comet will brighten as it gets closer to the sun but will become trickier to see as it drops lower in the sky. If it survives its passage near the sun, it should be visible in the Southern Hemisphere by the end of September.
