Ford Fined $165M for Delayed Recall Response

Ford Motor Co. has agreed to pay up to $165 million in penalties to the U.S. government for delays in recalling vehicles with faulty rearview cameras and providing incomplete recall information. This settlement, which includes a $65 million payment and $45 million in compliance spending, is the second-largest civil penalty in the history of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). An independent third party will oversee Ford's recall processes for at least three years, and the company will invest in improving its data analytics and testing capabilities.
