Elderly Homeowner's Fatal Shooting of Uber Driver Over Scam Misunderstanding

An 81-year-old man in West Virginia fatally shot an innocent Uber driver, believing she was tied to a scammer threatening him for $12,000. The man, William Brock, claimed he had been warned that he and his family would be killed unless he paid the money. The Uber driver, Loletha Hall, had also been tricked by the same scammer and was instructed to pick up a package from Brock's home. After a struggle, Brock shot Hall three times, leading to her death. Brock has pleaded not guilty to murder, and his bail was set at $200,000. The Clark County Sheriff's Office warned residents, especially older citizens, to use caution when being unexpectedly contacted by individuals claiming to be relatives incarcerated in a correctional facility.
