Germany's last three nuclear power plants have been shut down after six decades of operation, with leftist and center-left lawmakers and environmental activists applauding the move, while pro-business and conservative politicians warned that the risk to the country's energy security remained. The closure of the nuclear plants was delayed for several months by the energy crisis sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February last year. Germany already generates around half of its electricity from renewable sources and aims to break 80% by 2030.
