Fellow lawmakers, including Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, expressed their support and admiration for Scalise's resilience. The White House called the diagnosis "devastating news." Multiple myeloma is a cancer that forms in white blood cells and while it is not considered curable, patients can live for many years with treatment.
