Measles Outbreak Looms in London: Urgent Warning to Parents

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has warned that London could experience a measles outbreak affecting tens of thousands of people due to low levels of vaccination. Mathematical calculations suggest that between 40,000 and 160,000 individuals could be affected. While the rest of the UK has higher immunization rates, there is an "urgent" need to vaccinate children, teenagers, and young adults in London. Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination levels in the UK are at their lowest in a decade, with around one in ten children not protected. The risk assessment also highlights 19 to 25-year-olds as the most susceptible group. The UKHSA urges those who have missed their MMR vaccines to catch up now to prevent a large outbreak and protect vulnerable individuals.
