A new precision medicine test called PrismRA could help doctors and patients identify the most effective arthritis drug sooner, potentially saving time, money, and pain. The test combines clinical factors, blood tests, and gene patterns to predict which patients are unlikely to respond to tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFis), a common class of arthritis drugs. However, widespread use of the test is hindered by insurance coverage and drug company incentives, as insurers often favor TNFis due to large rebates from manufacturers.
