Russia is allegedly recruiting foreign migrants detained at its border with Finland for military service in Ukraine. The practice of coercing detainees in pre-deportation centers to sign contracts for army service is not new, but the numbers have increased as foreign migrants arrived at the Russian-Finnish border. Finland temporarily closed its border crossings, accusing Russia of encouraging the influx of migrants as part of a destabilization campaign. Migrants were offered jobs in the Russian army, promising good pay and medical care, but were later sent to a military camp on the Ukrainian border.
