Tragic Death of Iranian Teen Sparks Outrage and Investigation

An Iranian high school student, Armita Garawand, has died nearly a month after falling into a coma in disputed circumstances on the Tehran metro. The 17-year-old ethnic Kurd had been hospitalized since October 1 after falling unconscious on the metro. The incident, captured on surveillance footage, has sparked controversy, with conflicting reports suggesting she was either critically wounded during an alleged assault by female members of Iran's morality police or suffered a sudden drop in blood pressure. The incident comes just over a year after the death of another young Iranian Kurd, Mahsa Amini, which led to mass protests across the country.
