TL;DR

The Kansas City Chiefs are acquiring quarterback Justin Fields from the New York Jets for a 2027 sixth‑round pick, with the Jets paying $7 million of Fields’ $10 million guaranteed 2026 salary and the Chiefs picking up the remaining $3 million. Fields, 27, struggled in New York and was benched, and will serve as a mobile backup to a rehabbing Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, while the Jets pivot to Geno Smith as their 2026 starter in a move that marks Fields’ fourth team in four seasons.
