Alabama GOP Governor Approves Controversial Redistricting Map Defying Court Orders and Supreme Court Ruling

Alabama GOP Governor Kay Ivey has approved a new congressional map that includes just one majority-Black district, despite a court order calling for two majority-Black districts or something close to it. The map, which must still be approved by a federal court, reduces the Black voting age population in District 7 from 55.6% to 50.65%. Democrats criticized Republicans for ignoring the court order, while Republicans argued that the map complied with the directive.
