"California Senate Race: Schiff vs. Garvey and the Absence of a Female Senator"
TL;DR
Democratic U.S. Representative Adam Schiff and former L.A. Dodgers star Steve Garvey emerge from California's top-two primary to face off in the U.S. Senate election in November. Schiff is favored to win in deep-blue California, while Garvey faces an uphill battle as the first Republican to win statewide since 2006. The matchup has disappointed progressive supporters of Rep. Katie Porter and raised concerns about the lack of diversity in California's Senate representation. The race has also highlighted the influence of former President Donald Trump and the state's top-two primary system.
