Schiff Questions DOJ Probe Into Newsom, Citing Trump-Era Abuses
Sen. Adam Schiff, a Newsom ally, acknowledged that a DOJ probe into Gov. Gavin Newsom and his wife could have merit but argued theTrump-era DOJ has shown “terrible abuse” of its power. He noted Newsom’s claim that President Trump directed the DOJ to probe him as political retaliation and highlighted that the investigations focus on tax records and nonprofits tied to Jennifer Siebel Newsom, plus an expanded inquiry related to Newsom’s former chief of staff. Schiff urged the DOJ to demonstrate legitimacy, pointing to past prosecutions he views as abuses, while Newsom frames the probe as retaliation as he contemplates a 2028 presidential run.
