McCarthy's Debt Deal with Biden Leaves Republicans Outsmarted.

Republicans who mocked President Joe Biden's age and alleged senility are now complaining that he outsmarted them during negotiations over the debt limit. Despite calling Biden "bumbling," House Speaker Kevin McCarthy conceded that he was impressed with Biden's negotiating team. The compromise legislation that came out of the negotiations includes reductions to government spending and stricter work requirements for federal food benefits, but also preserves key Democratic priorities like student loan debt relief and climate change funding. Democrats maintain that Republicans have underestimated Biden's negotiating skills.
