Niger's Junta Seeks Russian Assistance Amidst Military Intervention Threat

Nigeria's Senate has advised President Bola Tinubu to explore political and diplomatic options before resorting to military intervention in Niger, as the deadline set by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for the coup leaders to reinstate the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum approaches. The Senate emphasized the need to avoid casualties among innocent citizens and urged the ECOWAS to consider alternative measures. The possibility of extending the deadline is being discussed, and neighboring countries Mali and Burkina Faso have expressed support for Niger against any ECOWAS intervention.
